This website began on April 20th, 2000. I was thinking about creating a website
for worship teams and I thought of the name "FreePraiseAndWorship.com".
Originally, I was going to make a website that had chord charts for the popular
praise and worship songs that we sang in our church, but I soon found out that
there are legal issues with doing that. Then I realized that there were a lot
of Christian songwriters offering their songs for free on the web - so I had
this idea to create a central repository for all of these songs.
Soon after I got started, I found www.sharesong.org.
When I contacted Marty at ShareSong we saw right away that we had a common purpose
and that we could only gain by working together. So we pooled our songs and
our efforts and soon the database began to grow.
As the database grew, we later added the voting function. With thousands of
songs to choose from, the votes help new visitors find the songs that others
have enjoyed the most but the search engine allows visitors to really find any
song on just about any topic that you can think of.
Interest in this "INDY" music has been blossoming, more and more
visitors are coming every day. I rejoice because praise and worship to our deserving
Lord is going out all over the world.
