GETHSEMANE’S GARDEN

Words by Mary Rose Jensen

Bm7     Em               G      D            G       B         Bm7

In Gethsemane’s Garden, the grief of the Son

Bm7      Em                    G     D               G          B          Em

As He prayed to the Father, “May Your will be done,”

D              G                                              Em                G

Caused great drops of blood to appear on His head,

B7           Em                     G     D                 G     B        Em

For He knew the next day He would surely be dead.

Bm7       Em                   G      D           G      B               Bm7

But His sorrow was greatest because He would pay

Bm7    Em                   G    D             G         B       Em

To redeem all His people who would not obey.

D       G                                          Em              G

The sins of the world on this innocent One

B7                   Em                       G    D      G     B          Em

Soon would make God the Father abandon His Son.

Bm7       Em                    G        D            G        B             Bm7

O how great was the suffering our Lord chose to bear,

Bm7            Em                  G       D       G          B     Em

Which He saw as He struggled alone in His prayer.

D              G                                              Em               G

Though ten thousand angels could rescue the Son,

B7        Em             G     D           G     B                  Em

He accepted the cup for the joy that would come.
